Background of the Study
Leadership style is a significant factor influencing employee job satisfaction, as it shapes the work environment, affects employee morale, and influences overall organizational performance. First Bank Plc, one of Nigeria's oldest and most prestigious banks, operates a large network of branches in Sokoto State, where the bank employs a diverse workforce. The leadership style practiced by managers and supervisors within the bank significantly impacts how employees perceive their jobs, the organizational culture, and their level of job satisfaction.

Job satisfaction refers to the extent to which employees feel content with their jobs, which is influenced by factors such as compensation, working conditions, recognition, and the leadership style in place (Owolabi, 2024). Different leadership styles—such as autocratic, democratic, transformational, and laissez-faire—have varying effects on employee satisfaction. A transformational leadership style, characterized by inspiration, motivation, and encouragement of innovation, has been shown to improve employee job satisfaction by fostering a positive work environment. On the other hand, autocratic leadership, which is more controlling and directive, may lead to job dissatisfaction and low morale (Akinmoladun & Adeniyi, 2023).

In Sokoto State, employees at First Bank Plc are likely to experience different leadership styles depending on the branch or department they work in, which may lead to variations in job satisfaction levels. Understanding the relationship between leadership style and employee job satisfaction at First Bank is critical for enhancing employee motivation, reducing turnover rates, and improving overall productivity within the bank.

Statement of the Problem
Although First Bank Plc has implemented various leadership approaches to manage its employees, there is insufficient research on the impact of leadership style on employee job satisfaction, particularly in Sokoto State. The differences in leadership style across various branches or teams within the bank may lead to inconsistent employee job satisfaction levels. This study aims to investigate the relationship between leadership style and job satisfaction among employees of First Bank Plc in Sokoto State to provide insights into how leadership can be leveraged to improve job satisfaction.
